This bicycle tour to the source of the Isar river and the nearby Kastenalm alpine hut begins with a ride from Mittenwald through the Riedboden nature conservation area to the neighboring Austrian town of Scharnitz, to the entrance of the Karwendel valleys. Passing the "Wiesenhof" alpine restaurant and the Gleierschhöhe mountain, cyclists and mountain bikers will enter the Hinterautal valley. With a steady, slight rise, the forest road leads along the origins of the Isar river through the unique landscape of the Hinterautal valley to the sources of the Isar in an idyllic alpine pasture, shortly before reaching the Kastenalm alpine hut. Here, cyclists can enjoy the quiet, the lovely nature and can refill their water bottles with crystal-clear spring water. The nearby Kastenalm alpine hut is operated during the summer months and offers traditional snacks, as well as refreshing beverages. The return to Mittenwald follows the same route as the approach.
