Cross-country skiing, Wallgau
A special attraction in the Alpenwelt Karwendel region is the "Kanada-Loipe" cross-country ski trail, which leads through the unique winter landscape along the Isar river toward Vorderriss.
The access to the trail is at the car park at the Isarsteg in Wallgau.
Here you can either cross the footbridge on foot and then turn left onto the trail towards Vorderriss, or walk a short distance on the trail towards Krün and cross the Isar over a bridge at the raft stage. On the other bank of the Isar, continue left towards Auhütte. This remains to the right of the trail. The route now leads through a wild river landscape, partly right next to the Isar. After approx. 8 kilometres, the Kanadaloipe trail becomes more challenging. If you are travelling here, you should be an experienced cross-country skier. From the floodplain, the trail climbs steeply in places into the mountain forest before descending again. The trail continues up and down through the forest above the Isar for a few kilometres until you reach the gravel bed of the Rissbach stream. Here you cross the riverbed and reach the road in Vorderriss.
