This large loop around Hoher Kranzberg in the Alpenwelt Karwendel region is a popular hike. At about 22 kilometers in length, hikers should be sure to schedule enough time. The tour leads around Mittenwald's
iconic Kranzberg mountain and showcases the lovely nature of the Alpenwelt Karwendel region.
This extensive hike around the 1,391 meter-high Kranzberg in Mittenwald begins at the base station of the Kranzberg chair lift (parking lot) and first leads over the Geological Educational Trail to Lautersee lake and the Water Trail above the lake, on up to Ferchensee lake. On this hiking trail, you will soon reach Ferchensee lake and hike further along the Ferchenbach river, past the world-famous Schloss Elmau palace hotel, to the former Alpengut Elmau. You will then hike either on the seldom-driven road, or through the Drüsselgraben rift valley, which also leads to nearby Schloss Kranzbach. Follow the course of the road until shortly before Klais, and then turn to the right, to enter the Mittenwald Buckelwiesen "hummock meadows" via the "Quicken" and the railway crossing. Follow the signs to Schmalensee lake, and onward to the Gröblalm lodge in Mittenwald. Following Gröblweg, you will reach the base station of the Kranzberg chair lift, the starting point of the hike, in just a short while.
