Mountain hiking to the Schachenschloss palace, at 1,870 m, is one of the highlights of the Alpenwelt Karwendel region. The regal hunting palace, with its marvelous botanical garden, towers high up in the Wetterstein mountains and provides magnificent views to all sides.

Tour description

This extensive mountain hike to the Schachen mountain begins in Mittenwald, with a climb to the nearby lakes – Lautersee and Ferchensee. From there, hikers continue to follow the forest road toward the Wettersteinalm alpine hut, which they will ultimately reach via Bannholzerweg and Königsweg. The Wettersteinalm alpine hut provides the option for a short breather and a cool, refreshing beverage. An interesting serpentine trail then leads through the so-called "Schachentor" to the destination of the tour, the regal hunting palace on the Schachen.
