Mountain hike to the Finzalm & Esterbergalm alpine huts from Wallgau

Tour description

The starting point of this tour is at the city hall in Wallgau, accessible via the bus stop "Rathaus Wallgau". From there it goes along the Wettersteinstraße to the Haus des Gastes and further along the agricultural roads. After reaching the edge of the forest after about 1.5 kilometers, follow the forest road, which leads up steadily to the Finzalm alpine hut. The landscape here consists of varied, mixed woodlands, as it does throughout the Karwendel and Ester mountains; innumerable tree species are represented, such as pine, larch, beech, maple, ash, alder, linden, elm and sallow. Even along the roadside, there is fanciful and colorful nature to be found. After a short climb, a sign points to the left to the Finzbachklamm gorge. From the highest point on the tour, you will find wonderful views into the deep gorge. Passing by the Finzalm alpine hut (operated part-time in summer), you will cross various small tributaries of the Finzbach river. Wherever you turn your ear, you will hear the murmurs, rushing and gurgling of water. From the Farchanter Alm alpine hut, the Esterbergalm alpine hut is only 15 minutes away.
