This first of two stages through the Karwendel mountain range showcases everything the region has to offer. Steep rock faces, broad alpine meadows, unique nature and trails that will make the hearts of all bikers beat faster. This tour is a must for athletic and experienced mountain bikers...
The Karwendel is undoubtedly the most beautiful mountain range in the northern Alps: rugged rock faces, similar to the Dolomites, rise above green, tranquil valleys. It is this contrast that makes the Karwendel so exciting from a scenic point of view - the cliffs are huge, steep and mighty; the valleys are gentle and lovely with wide alpine meadows and dark green forests. The Karwendel Nature Park, a nature and landscape conservation area, is well developed for bikers. The main route through the Karwendel valley over the Hochalmsattel, through the Eng and over the Plumsjoch into the Gerntal has been a favourite classic route for bikers for years. The Transalp Challenge has also travelled south along this route several times. On the first day, the two-day Karwendelrunde takes this route from Mittenwald to Lake Achensee.
