The Mittenwalder Hütte lodge sits partway up between the cliffs of the Karwendel and offers a very impressive view of the upper Isar river valley and the Alpenwelt Karwendel region, with its vacation towns of Mittenwald, Krün and Wallgau. A visit to the Mittenwalder Hütte lodge is a must for ambitious mountain hikers...
The Mittenwalder Hütte lodge can be reached in about 1.5 hours on switchbacks through the shady mountain forest. The hiking trail along the Erzgrube, right along the base of the Karwendel, begins opposite the Karwendel cable car base station. After crossing the wild stream, a winding trail through the forest begins. After about an hour of hiking, things get a bit steeper. The route continues up the mountain on rocky ground; tricky spots are secured by cable rope. Once the short climb is done, you are rewarded with a panoramic view of the Viererspitze, Koflerturm and Karwendelspitze peaks. From here, it's just a few more minutes to the Mittenwalder Hütte lodge, which features a terrace providing impressive views of the town and the Lautersee lake beyond.
