Start: Mittenwald Hiking-Parkinglot (Nord) Outdoor area - Destination: Hochlandhütte Outdoor area Mittenwald
A hike to the Hochlandhütte lodge in Mittenwald is recommended for anyone traveling through the Alpenwelt Karwendel region. Like an eagle's nest, the Hochlandhütte lodge (1,632 meters) sits enthroned before the spectacular backdrop of the Wörner and many other Karwendel mountain peaks.
This medium-difficulty hiking tour from Mittenwald to the Hochlandhütte lodge begins at the northern hiking parking lot (near the barracks) off the main road 2. From here, first walk in a southerly direction to the bridge, then turn to the left onto a narrow hiking trail. This will lead you steadily up along the Gassellahnbach river, until you reach a forest road at the upper end of the trail. Hikers will follow the forest road until it leads to a bridge which crosses the Gassellahnbach river. After the bridge, the gravel road leads up a short distance further, and soon the switchbacks begin, which lead to the Oberen Kälberalm alpine hut and the idyllic Hochlandhütte lodge, at 1,632 meters.
